The PINPOINT Endoscopic Fluorescence Imaging System was recently featured in the AIS Channel’s live streaming international consensus on rectal cancer surgery. The London-based event was broadcast to showcase and discuss the four common surgical strategies for rectal cancer. World renowned experts presented during the event and four live rectal cancer surgeries were performed simultaneously in separate theaters by teams of international surgeons.
Steven Wexner, M.D. led the discussion surrounding the utility of PINPOINT and noted that in his opinion, near-infrared imaging may be the best technology available to help decrease anastomotic leak rates. Dr. Wexner also spoke on how the use of PINPOINT can potentially help to confirm resection margins and assess anastomotic perfusion.
Throughout the event, PINPOINT was utilized numerous times, including during the live laparoscopic and transanal total mesorectal excision (TATME) cases performed by Yves Panis, M.D. and Antonio de Lacy, M.D., respectively.
The innovative, internationally broadcasted event also allowed surgeons in the audience to interact with the surgical teams through a chat window – where there was plenty of buzz surrounding PINPOINT’s capabilities in the operating room.
